Opening Speaker: Ieuan Wyn Jones - “Leading the way from recession to growth – the challenge facing leaders in Wales”

"Despite formidable challenges and turbulence in the global economy, the underlying strategy for achieving competitiveness remains the same. The success of Wales will still depend to a very large extent on the skills and knowledge we develop and on how we deploy our expertise. Leadership and Management skills provide the X-factor that translates other training and development into achieving social objectives and creating wealth. Inspirational Leaders and Managers will lead Wales out of recession and into growth.
The Assembly Government, supported by the European Social Fund will, over the next 5 years make Leadership and Management capability a priority. We will work with the Wales Employment and Skills Board, the Centre for Excellence for Leadership and Management and Public Service Management Wales to ensure that the need for these skills is understood and that the resources and training available to leaders are 1st class. We will meet that need through a variety of projects as part of the Assembly Government's successful Workforce Development Programme."
