Workshop 4: The Institute of Leadership and Management present:
“Mental Toughness”

presented by Dr Peter Clough and Doug Strycharczyk. Dr Clough is Head of the Psychology Dept at the University of Hull and Doug is the Managing Director of AQR Ltd.

Developing Mental Toughness in themselves and their team is critical for any leader that wants to succeed and optimise performance in today’s challenging times.

Delegates attending this workshop will:
• Gain an insight into the concept of mental toughness and its many applications in organisations including in the development of leaders.
• Receive an introduction to MTQ48, the innovative measure of mental toughness.
• Discover a sample tool kit of practical development activity based on 5 core interventions.

The session is designed to be interactive with delegates having the opportunity to try techniques such as Bio-feedback devices for monitoring mental toughness development and MT development exercises. Delegates will also get the opportunity to trial MTQ48 – The Mental Toughness Questionnaire.


Dr Peter Clough
Dr Peter Clough Ch. Occ. Psych. is Head of the Psychology Department at The University of Hull. He developed the Mental Toughness model and measure which was published in 2003. The model and measure is now used extensively for individual and organisational development in occupational work, education sports, health and social work. With extensive academic and commercial experience Peter works with AQR Ltd to oversee the development of new measures, the most recent being the ILM72 - world’s first integrated measure of leadership – mapping to all major leadership models.
Doug Strycharczyk
Doug Strycharczyk possesses more than 30 years experience in a variety of Line, HR & Consultancy roles with a wide range of organisations in the private and public sectors. Doug founded AQR Ltd. in 1989. He is widely acknowledged as an authority on the assessment and development of managers and leaders. AQR now works in over 30 countries around the globe and has emerged as one of the most innovative psychometric test publishers in the world.
